One off beautiful exprience in a manor hall reviving itself

What an amazing weekend as a hotel guest. Please read this review fully as it was a unique experience & requires you to be prepared. The young gentleman on reception was excellent and very polite . This was once a luxury manor hall & has just been taken back by the owners. Some of it is still run down which you have to know to expect. But I cannot fault the sheer beauty. We left smiling throughout as we couldn’t believe we had the opportunity to sleep in what was a luxury manor hall. •we were the only guests that weekend. •the drive was incredible with sheep, ducks, cows grazing within the beauty. •the gardens were incredible fit for a wedding. •There is no restaurant or bar. Please come knowing this as Grantham is so nearby for all amenities. •Bring water, drinks, snacks etc. •we dined in Grantham and the restaurants were delicious. •We found this hotel on booking.com. We drove up to it and it had beautiful surroundings we could not fault. •The very polite receptionist told us that they have just turned it back into a hotel so it will take time as more guests arrive over the next few months to perfect it. He was very kind & fair being up front about why it didn’t have a bar and restaurant. •We stayed in what was the bridal suite. Room was huge. Very comfy bed, TV. Kettle. It’s important to note this isn’t a fully running hotel with lots of amenities. This was a one off experience in a manor which we loved. Water took time to run hot but again this is a stately home. After 8-9 mins of running it, the hot water kicks in. They only use a few rooms currently whilst they are renovating. We were the only guests & honestly can’t believe the sheer beauty. Please arrive knowing they are doing their best to turn this back into a hotel slowly. I have never slept in a manor hall without lots of guests enjoying everything about it.

Very disappointed.

Room was clean & tidy

Lift was out of order & given an upgrade on the top floor just made matters worse. While having a sandwich in the bar a woman’s dog peed all over the place. I’m not against dogs but that’s not acceptable. We didn’t eat in the restaurant because of this.

Underwhelming visit to Stoke Rochford Hall

I booked a 1-night stay as a valentine retreat for my partner & I. The photos, location description and reviews on the official website along with booking.com undoubtably promoted Stoke Rochford Hall; therefore, I did not hesitate in booking a Kings Suite. On arrival, the grounds and hall look beautiful and I felt that I had chosen a perfect location for a romantic relaxing evening. We arrived at around 5pm, our check-in was simple enough but we were given very little information regarding the facilities. We were allocated the Easton Suite. The cleanliness standard of the room was somewhat ‘slapdash’ with surfaces dusty and the toilet had staining. There were very limited toiletries (2 shower-gels) 1 & ½ toilet rolls. Notwithstanding the bed was very comfy and towels were of a good quality. The room had several scuffs on the walls and marks on the carpet. With a little more attention to detail, this could have been a lovely room. We relaxed in the bar but were somewhat disappointed that for such a grand room, again it was very dusty and rather than having a relaxed ambiance with the table lamps, the full bright ceiling lights were used. As a contrast, the lighting within the dining room was perfect and we were served a lovely meal. On check out, I paid my bill and was surprised that the meal was advertised at £25 per head however the food bill was £53.95. We did not have any items that attracted a surcharge. Furthermore, we opted to have a drink with our meal and one further drink from the bar. Both times we ordered a Gin & Slimline tonic & pint of Amstel. The cost for the 1st drinks were charged at £10 and the 2nd £14. We had a suitable breakfast in the morning and checked out around 9am. On a positive note, the staff member whom served dinner and the receptionist who conducted our check-out were very polite and helpful.

Lord and lady of the manor for 50 quid a night

Great setting and fantastic walking. We had a wonderful time with the hounds. Had a lovely meal in the bar, great quality fish and chips. The staff were very friendly.

We booked into a lovely looking hotel and were amazed at the...

We booked into a lovely looking hotel and were amazed at the price but soon found out why instead of staying in the wonderful old Hall with chandeliers and carved wood everywhere we were directed to the courtyard out the back possibly the stables or we joked the servants quarters. The room was adequate small and basic the bed felt a bit uncomfortable but our main feeling was of disappointment. The breakfast for an extra 10 each was very nice though.

Valentine’s Day disappointment.

Staff were friendly, the bar was a cosy room with an open fire

Was put in a tiny double room, not even enough space to pass each other in the room. The details for the room we booked was a standard room with a garden view. The room was in the stable area with a very small window looking on to the car park. The buildings are very tired looking. Plus limited parking in this area, so if there is no parking spaces you will have a bit of a walk with your luggage. All the facilities are in the main house so had to wear a coat and walk to the hotel in cold, raining weather. Breakfast is in a restaurant in the main house, so needed to take a coat. The restaurant is set in the lower part of the house which looks run down. The lift was not working so the restaurant is accessed by stairs. There is very limited mobile reception. When we stayed we had no WiFi coverage. We reported this to the receptionist. She apologised but we were given no reason for there being no WiFi.

Over priced for what was on offer.

The building and gardens and surroundings are beautiful.

Not having a breakfast included in the £158 a night price was disappointing. The room was large but nothing special. No fridge, small sachets of tea and coffee. You can hear the howling of the wind through the corridors all night.

an intriguing night at the majestic chateau

The hotel had just reopened to the public. We arrived at 10pm and the castle was illuminated, it was quite a spectacle. Our room was very spacious and clean, with a king size bed. We were immediately intrigued by the history of the place and the member of staff was very happy to tell us its story. The castle has huge windows and a beautiful wooden staircase. We had a little tour of the refurbished part of the premises the next morning and we ventured in the vast garden with lovely mature trees. We also saw a deer.

At the time of our stay, food was not available. The bar and the restaurant had not reopened to the public. We were informed by a member of staff in advance and it was not a problem for us.

staying in the main building; spacious room

Lift out of order; no telephone in room (I was ill and if i had needed help this could be a serious issue) I couldnt call for help with my suitcase. Tiny TV; very very basic toiletries; no biscuits with coffee tray.

5* from the outside 2* from the inside!

The grounds are beautiful and great for walking if you have dogs or enjoy the countryside. From the outside the building is super impressive.

Cleanliness- the whole hotel is dirty, especially the rooms! There was thick dust everywhere, even dead flies on windowsills and every light fitting was missing at least 1 bulb if not more. Heating was not on in the rooms and a little electric heater replaced it (only presume this is because they cannot afford to heat it properly). The lift didn’t work so you have to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to the bedrooms which is not fun. Stock photos are a very poor representation of the reality! Never seems to be any staff around and the reception is hidden down a corridor, not in the main entrance. The restaurant had zero atmosphere and the food extremely overpriced and very mediocre at best. The menu was very 70’s and limited. No room service option and you are rushed through your meal which doesn’t make for a good dining experience. In summary this hotel needs a MASSIVE cash injection (multi millions of pounds spent on it) for it to meet the standard you would expect from its appearance and despite the cheap rooms rates you leave disappointed and feeling like you had been mis sold. Modern Faulty Towers minus the comedy!

Disappointing

Arrived to a stunning hotel, only to be told our room was not in the main building it was in what seemed like staff quarters in a courtyard outside. The room was tiny and freezing, eventually figured out the radiators. All the linings for the curtains were mouldy, whole room was full of cobwebs. When I plugged the lamp in next to the bed, down by the socket looked like it hadn't been dusted since it was built!! Phones could not pick up the Wifi at all and due to the location, no phone signal. When I expressed my concerns at check out, reception said they would call me later that day. No phone call. Very disappointed with our stay.

4th time we have been here and would be happy to go again. It has everything we could ask for.

Unique building which although shows signs of age is beautiful. The staff work hard to make everyone feel comfortable. The dog is always made welcome and being able to walk around the grounds happily means a great deal after a 5 hour journey.

We didn’t like the fact that someone trashed the pool table. But that’s no fault of the hall or it’s staff. Also not to sure of the leisure facilities. Never have found them open
